"As a child, I would walk through the General Motors Design Center where my father worked, looking at the cars of the future. All the shiny, smooth fenders and futuristic-looking designs served as a platform for my interest as well as a benchmark for good design.
The mirror finish pieces I create possess a chameleon effect. Each one takes on the same characteristics as its surroundings. The smooth lines and the flawless, shiny, reflectiveness of each piece create wonder. Just what are we looking at? It causes you to question its relativity, even its existence. The reflective-ness inspires the actual feeling that you have even more than you have.
I revel in the fact that I can take raw materials and create something both beautiful and out-of-the-ordinary that makes people happy and amazed. I also like to create the illusion of movement or energy within some of them.
I enjoy working with metals and materials in ways they do not want to go.
A designer once said, “Steve is smarter than the metal!”
It starts when I picture what the new work will look like in my imagination, and then make a drawing of it with precise measurements. Then I locate the raw materials and ultimately find great satisfaction in creating both beautiful and unique art. My hope is for the viewers’ first comment to be, “Wow - that’s cool! I want that.”"
Steven Fidler has mastered his craft using a variety of metal and materials to create unique metal sculptures, architectural features and furniture. His talents with metal work have made him a favorite vendor with many Interior Designers, Architects, and other Artists. His specialty is highly polished stainless steel, though he works with many unique patina finishes on steel, bronze, copper, and aluminum. His attention to detail and specialty finishes are a hallmark of his work. His art work with mirror finish details are like nothing you have experienced before. Steve has been working with stainless steel for over 25 years. He has also developed an original artistic etching pattern for stainless steel art work, developed to provide a very durable, interesting and attractive surface that would not show small scratches, dust, and smudges common to stainless steel. One of Steve's specialties is helping others build the things they dream up - He likes to tell potential clients "If you can think of it, I can make it".
